The medieval era in our civilization witnessed the maximum changes and evolution in the fields of art, culture and science. The new ideas in the society had effects on the dressing and hairstyling too. The women of the medieval era mostly kept long hair. Keeping the hair open or tying them into loose plaits was quite common. The women used to keep their hair covered most of the time so use of various kinds of headdresses were quite popular in that era. The women used hats, caps and veils too and the hair used to be visible from the sides only. Generally hair was not supposed to be shown in public as there was chance that the person would be considered or accused as a witch. The ladies used to have different types of braids to keep their hair in place. They used to be four-stranded or three-stranded or twist-cross braids. The hairstyles of the medieval era are still done by the women but only during the special occasion such as wedding, engagement of any festival gathering to have elegant look and look graceful.
